Primary Lens: A digitally-native security that creates superior value for both investors and issuers over traditional finance methods, underpinned by ironclad regulatory compliance and asset integrity.
Judging Pillars (each scored 1-10, weighted):
| Pillar | Weight | Description |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Regulatory & Legal Robustness | 30% | The non-negotiable foundation of any legitimate security token. Excellence is demonstrated through jurisdictional compliance (licensing or exemptions), formal legal opinions, robust investor accreditation processes, and legal structures that provide unambiguous token-holder rights. Projects that have secured regulatory approvals or operate within recognised sandboxes are strongly favoured. |
| 2. Investor Value Proposition | 20% | The unique advantages offered to the token holder over direct ownership of the underlying asset. Excellence is shown through enhanced accessibility (fractionalisation, lower minimums), superior liquidity mechanisms (secondary market venues, market making), greater transparency (real-time reporting, on-chain proofs), and programmable financial benefits (automated dividends, yield distribution). |
| 3. Issuer Value Proposition | 15% | The tangible benefits for the asset owner or fundraising entity. Excellence is demonstrated through improved capital efficiency (faster raise, lower cost of capital), operational efficiency (automated compliance, reduced intermediaries), enhanced balance sheet utility (collateralisation, programmable restrictions), and access to novel product structures (hybrid debt-equity, revenue sharing). |
| 4. Underlying Asset Integrity & Structure | 20% | The quality and verifiable linkage between the token and the reference asset. Excellence is shown through robust custody solutions (regulated custodians, proof of reserves), transparent and frequent independent valuation, clear legal-operational framework for value transfer (enforcement of rights), and regular third-party audits. The asset must be free of encumbrances and properly insured where applicable. |
| 5. Technical Execution & Market Performance | 15% | The real-world functionality and adoption of the tokenized security. Excellence is demonstrated through secure infrastructure (audited smart contracts, key management, disaster recovery), successful primary issuance (over-subscription, speed of raise), and a liquid, reliable secondary market experience (trading volume, bid-ask spread, holder diversity, settlement finality). |
Primary Lens: A business growth engine that leverages token utility to drive measurable commercial outcomes and competitive advantage, without reliance on speculation or security-like features.
Judging Pillars:
| Pillar | Weight | Description |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Business Integration & Strategic Alignment | 20% | The depth to which the token is woven into the issuer's core operations, products, or customer journeys. Excellence is shown through seamless integration with existing services (e.g., loyalty apps, payment rails), clear alignment with overarching business strategy (e.g., retention, cross-sell, operational efficiency), and evidence that the token is not an isolated experiment but a strategic asset. |
| 2. Measurable Impact | 35% | The tangible, quantifiable effect on key business performance indicators. Excellence is demonstrated through validated improvements in customer acquisition (new user growth), retention (churn reduction), lifetime value (average spend per user), revenue lift (direct or indirect), operational cost reduction, or partner network expansion. Evidence must include before-after metrics, cohort analyses, or third-party audits. For impact-focused tokens (environmental, social, cultural), this pillar is evaluated as “Measurable Social/Environmental Impact” - with evidence of third-party verified outcomes such as carbon credits retired, beneficiaries reached, funds transparently distributed, or educational attainment metrics. |
| 3. Token Utility & User Adoption | 20% | The strength of the incentive model and its real-world uptake. Excellence is shown through a utility design that drives habitual engagement (e.g., earning, burning, staking for access), strong user adoption rates (active wallets, daily transactions), high engagement frequency, growing community or partner network, and network effects that increase value with each new participant. |
| 4. Economic Sustainability | 15% | The long-term viability and uniqueness of the token-enabled model. Excellence is demonstrated through sustainable tokenomics (inflation control, value accrual mechanisms, reserve management), alignment of stakeholder incentives (users, issuers, partners), and a defensible moat that is difficult for competitors to replicate (e.g., network effects, switching costs, exclusive partnerships). |
| 5. Team & Governance | 10% | The capability of the team and the transparency of decision-making. Excellence is shown through relevant track record (prior successful launches, domain expertise), clear roadmap with achieved milestones, transparent governance mechanisms (if any, e.g., DAO voting, multi-sig treasury), and active community feedback loops. |
Primary Lens: A technical solution that solves a real, high-value problem in the digital asset and tokenized securities ecosystem, adopted by reputable industry players and built on robust, scalable architecture.
Judging Pillars:
| Pillar | Weight | Description |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Technical Excellence & Reliability | 30% | The robustness, security, and scalability of the solution. Excellence is demonstrated through proven architecture (e.g., microservices, zero-trust), comprehensive security audits (third-party, published), high uptime (99.9%+ SLA), ability to scale under load (stress test results), and superior developer or user experience (documentation, SDKs, intuitive interfaces). |
| 2. Adoption & Market Enablement | 25% | The tangible role in advancing real-world tokenization. Excellence is shown through significant adoption by reputable projects (number and quality of clients), measurable improvement in client success metrics (e.g., reduced time-to-market, lower compliance costs, increased liquidity), and removal of key barriers to entry for enterprises or builders (e.g., simplified KYC/AML, cross-chain interoperability). |
| 3. Problem Criticality & Gap Solving | 20% | The novelty and effectiveness in solving a fundamental, high-value ecosystem bottleneck. Excellence is demonstrated by addressing critical, unmet needs in areas such as regulatory compliance, cross-chain interoperability, liquidity fragmentation, identity verification, data integrity, or smart contract security. The solution must offer a clear improvement over existing alternatives (e.g., faster, cheaper, more secure). |
| 4. Standards & Compliance Contribution | 15% | The contribution to establishing safety, trust, and interoperability. Excellence is shown through proactive development of open standards (e.g., ERC proposals, API specifications), robust compliance features (built-in KYC/AML, jurisdiction-aware rules), and active participation in shaping regulatory clarity or industry best practices (e.g., whitepapers, working groups). |
| 5. Ecosystem & Community Impact | 10% | The broad, positive influence on the maturity of the tokenization landscape. Excellence is demonstrated through educational initiatives (tutorials, courses), open source contributions (code, libraries), community support (forums, office hours), and actions that foster collaboration and raise the quality bar across the sector (e.g., bug bounties, grants). |
Rising Stars: Evaluated using a lighter version of the main category criteria, with reduced weighting on market performance and increased focus on innovation, team capability, and growth potential. All Rising Star candidates are judged together (no sub-categories).
Student Merit: Judged primarily on originality, technical or research quality, and relevance to digital assets. Commercial traction is not required. All student entries are judged together. Proof of enrolment is required.
